ABOUT US
Samaritan’s Healing Hands [SHH] is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on a Gospel inspired mission to bring modern technology and expert medical-surgical cancer care to under served patients first in Ethiopia and then to greater Eastern Africa.
A severe lack of basic cancer care in Ethiopia has resulted in the untimely death of more than 60% of cancer patients.
CAT scans, mammograms, MRI, and other needed tests are too expensive for most Ethiopian patients. Many chemotherapy drugs are cost-prohibitive and many patients die waiting eight to ten months for radiation therapy. Even though cancer surgery remains the most effective and curative treatment for most solid tumors, there is very little availability of cancer surgeons in this part of the continent.
A primary goal of SHH is to provide necessary testing for cancer patients to facilitate timely diagnoses. Through the SHH Foundation, a missionary cancer surgeon and others will provide much needed surgical care. Our ultimate vision includes education and training of surgical residents and medical students to take the cancer care beyond the hospital and to other parts of the continent.
